About Us

Based in the UK, Norwood design, manufacture and install bespoke demountable steel and glass partitions, doors, ceilings and associated accessories to create cleanrooms and other high-tech and commercial environments.

Our Story

Norwood have built a strong reputation within the manufacturing and installation of architectural envelopes for high specification cleanrooms, laboratories and various modular and flexible spaces. Primarily, we operate within the Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Education and Semiconductor markets.

In 2016, Josh Bannister was appointed as Managing Director of the company together with his management team. Since then, their brand and capabilities have grown significantly, allowing further investment in the latest cutting-edge manufacturing equipment, product development, extensive testing and high quality, sustainable materials. In 2017, Norwood was acquired by BES, the specialist design and engineering contractor, which have provided the buying power to deliver larger projects in the most efficient way.

Utilising Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) methodologies, we have developed an impressive range of products, particularly the ‘Mediline’ fully flush system, which is a demountable partition solution, manufactured specifically for cleanroom environments. We also offer a range of suspended ceilings, walk on ceilings, door sets and glazed solutions. Our innovative modular system brings a number of advantages, including faster deliveries and installations, reduced costs and environmental footprint, as well as minimised safety risks on site, due to incorporating modern methods of construction and off site prefabrication.

We pride ourselves on excellent customer care and developing long-standing relationships with our clients. This approach has resulted in repeat business and an outstanding track record for delivering market-leading projects across the UK. We have worked with many architectural practices such as Arup, nbbj and Atkins and main contractors such as Bouygues, Interserve,  Balfour Beatty or McLaren. Our portfolio includes NHS, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Fujifilm, IQE, Cambridge University, VMIC and Jaguar Land Rover.

We employ driven and skilled individuals who are passionate about technology and product development. Our pro-active in-house team comprises BIM compliant designers, products development experts, production operatives, project management and installation team. Our commitment to producing creative, quality and intelligent functionality is matched by our expertise in the field of manufacturing and engineering know-how.

Tailored, Personal Delivery

Our fully integrated team delivers innovative and performance driven products, tailored to the specific needs of each client. Working across the country and internationally, we offer our services to architects, appointed contractors and end-users. We provide our specialist expertise every step of the way, from planning and design, through to installation and handover.

Building for the Future

Our clients especially value the quality of the product, speed of delivery and the flexibility of our system that is easily demountable and reconfigurable. Our modular solutions allow clients to easily remodel their spaces, saving time and money.

Product Testing

We are passionate about technology and we relish the challenge of creating new design ideas. We continue to invest in product development, undertaking numerous tests to achieve the best air permeability, acoustic and fire ratings, as well as compliance with cGMP, including compatibility with VHP, and resistance to bacterial growth.

Offsite Manufacture

All the products are prefabricated in our factory in Manchester, UK. The modular components are assembled and ready for installation, which helps to shorten timescales, improve quality and reduce health and safety risks on site. We utilise modern methods of construction and DfMA methodologies to ensure we maximise a quality and efficiency.

Credentials & Testing

Our products undergo comprehensive testing to ensure they meet the fire, acoustic, structural, microbiology and permeability requirements. All of Norwood’s standard range products have been tested to the appropriate British Standards, and the relevant certification can be provided on a request. We also work closely with our clients to provide bespoke project specific testing. In addition, all our products can be found on the RIBA product selector, through NBS Specification.

High Quality Materials

Our panels are manufactured from the highest quality materials, such as our pre-coated steel which comes from Swedish Steel (SSAB). The steel from SSAB is a foodsafe laminate which is a galvanised substrate layered with PVC laminate. The steel is manufactured to EN 10169-1 and has a very good resistance to forming and low gloss smooth surface with high wear resistance. It is extremely easy to clean and is resistant to most chemicals.

Our products meet all of the following criteria:

  • Non-toxicity
  • Corrosion protection
  • Wet-scrub resistance
  • Ease of cleaning
  • Scratch resistance
  • Water absorption

Sustainability

We are committed to sustainability, utilising the best materials and developing processes which aim to reduce our carbon footprint. Our products feature a bio-based coating which uses a substantial portion of Swedish rapeseed oil instead of traditional fossil fuel oils. This unique patented solution reduces the environmental footprint significantly. In addition, our steel demountable panels are made of recyclable materials, which means that they can be efficiently re-used.
